Lost in Frost

Another natural wonder escaping my knowledge of physics and science.  Is it that the plant creates some kind of exothermic reaction and melts the frost around it, or prevents frost from forming? Maybe it is even simpler than that, but for me, I like thinking the plant is awake and energetic, melting away the sleepy coldness around it. A contagiously positive force in the forceful frost.
